🕒 Journey times assume no major traffic. Bus and taxi times increase significantly during rush hour (7–9am, 5–8pm) and on holiday weekends. AREX is immune to traffic and the most reliable option for fixed schedules. Distance from Incheon Airport to central Seoul (Seoul Station): approximately 60 km.

Terminal 1 (T1) vs. Terminal 2 (T2)

Incheon Airport has two terminals located approximately 15 minutes apart by free shuttle bus. Always confirm which terminal your airline uses before you travel — arriving at the wrong terminal causes significant delays.

✈️ Which airlines use which terminal?
Terminal 1 (T1)
  • Most foreign airlines
  • United Airlines, American Airlines
  • British Airways, Lufthansa, Emirates
  • Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific
  • Japan Airlines (JAL), ANA
  • Jeju Air, T’way Air, Eastar Jet and most other budget carriers
Terminal 2 (T2)
  • Korean Air (all flights)
  • Asiana Airlines (relocated to T2 in January 2026)
  • Jin Air, Air Busan, Air Seoul
  • Delta Air Lines and other SkyTeam partners (Air France – KLM etc.)
  • T2 opened in 2018; fewer airlines but faster processing
📍 Always verify with your airline. Airlines occasionally switch terminals for specific routes. Check your boarding pass or the Incheon Airport website (airport.kr) to confirm your terminal on the day of travel. The free shuttle between terminals runs every 5–7 minutes.

AREX — Airport Railroad Express

🚇
AREX Express Train
Non-stop direct service: Incheon Airport → Seoul Station
43–51 min
₩11,000 (~$8)

The AREX Express (공항철도) is the fastest and most reliable way to reach central Seoul from Incheon Airport. The non-stop express runs directly to Seoul Station — one of Seoul’s major transport hubs in the city centre — in 43 minutes from T1 and about 51 minutes from T2. Express trains depart roughly every 40 minutes, and online or partner discounts on the ₩11,000 fare are widely available. The all-stop service takes about 59 minutes from T1 (66 from T2) but connects to multiple intermediate stations and is dramatically cheaper.

At Seoul Station you can transfer directly to Seoul Metro Lines 1 and 4, the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and KTX trains to Busan, Gyeongju, and other destinations. Seoul Station is also close to Myeongdong (2 subway stops on Line 4) and is well connected to most tourist accommodation areas.

  1. After clearing customs at T1 or T2, follow signs for “Airport Railroad” (공항철도) — exits are clearly marked in English throughout arrivals.
  2. Take the elevator or escalator to B1 (underground) level — the AREX station is directly beneath T1 and T2.
  3. Purchase a ticket at the automated ticket machine (English available) or use a T-money card at the gate.
  4. Select “Express” for non-stop service to Seoul Station, or “All Stop” for intermediate stations (Gimpo Airport, Hongik University, etc.).
  5. Board the correct train — express and all-stop trains run on different platforms; check the destination display board carefully.
  6. Arrive at Seoul Station. Exit through the turnstiles and follow signs for Seoul Metro or street exits.

  • Fastest scheduled journey (43 min from T1)
  • Immune to road traffic
  • Runs 5:20am – 11:20pm daily
  • Most affordable express option
  • T-money card accepted (all-stop)
  • Luggage storage space on train
Cons
  • Only goes to Seoul Station (express)
  • Final subway hop may still be needed
  • Express runs every ~40 min
  • Busy during peak travel periods
💳 T-money tip: If you have a T-money card loaded with credit, you can use it directly at the AREX gate for the all-stop service — no ticket purchase needed. The all-stop fare to Seoul Station is ₩4,750 from T1 and ₩5,350 from T2 (slightly less to intermediate stations like Hongik University). Express requires a separate reserved ticket and does not accept T-money.

Airport Limousine Bus

🚌
Airport Limousine Bus
Comfortable express coach to major hotel districts
60–90 min
₩17,000–18,000 (~$13)

Airport limousine buses (공항 리무진) are comfortable, air-conditioned express coaches that run from Incheon Airport directly to hotel zones and major districts across Seoul. Unlike the regular airport bus, limousine buses make very few stops — typically 3–8 stops per route — and deliver you extremely close to major accommodation areas. Most buses leave every 10–20 minutes.

The most established operator is K-Limousine (Korea Airport Limousine, 한국공항리무진) — the successor to the retired “KAL”-branded limousine service (brand discontinued in 2021). Routes cover Myeongdong, Gangnam, Hongdae, Itaewon, Insadong, and many other key areas and hotel clusters. Each passenger is allowed one large suitcase in the hold.

  1. Exit the arrivals hall (Floor 1 at T1, Floor 1 at T2).
  2. Look for “Airport Limousine Bus” signs and proceed to the outdoor bus platforms (designated bays 4A–13A at T1, 4B–8B at T2).
  3. Find the route number serving your destination — large boards at each bay display route numbers and stops.
  4. Purchase a ticket at the ticket booth near the bus stop or on the bus (cash or card accepted).
  5. Store your large luggage in the hold under the bus when the driver opens it.
  6. Board and enjoy the comfortable seats — arrival time is announced over the speaker at each stop.

  • Luggage hold — easy with big bags
  • Frequent departures (10–20 min)
  • No subway transfers needed
Cons
  • Traffic delays possible
  • More expensive than AREX
  • Stops not always near your specific hotel
  • Routes may not cover your area

Regular Airport Bus

🚍
Regular Airport Bus (공항버스)
Budget option connecting to specific Seoul neighbourhoods
60–100 min
₩10,000–15,000

Regular airport buses (공항버스) are less comfortable than limousines but significantly cheaper. They run to specific neighbourhoods including areas not served by the limousine network. Buses stop more frequently, which increases journey time but gets you closer to residential areas. T-money cards are accepted on most regular airport buses.

The regular buses are a good option if you are staying in less central areas, travelling on a tight budget, or if your accommodation is near one of the bus stops that limousines do not serve. Journey times vary widely depending on traffic and route length.

Pros
  • Cheapest bus option
  • Covers more neighbourhoods
  • T-money card accepted
  • Luggage hold available
Cons
  • Many stops — slow journey
  • Less comfortable seating
  • Traffic-dependent
  • Less frequent than limousine
📍 Finding your bus: Bus stop maps in the arrivals hall show which stop serves which area. The Incheon Airport website (airport.kr) has a bus route search tool in English where you can enter your destination and find the nearest stop and route number.

Taxi & Hire Car from Incheon Airport

🚕
Taxi (Regular, Deluxe, International)
Door-to-door service, multiple vehicle types available
60–90 min
₩65,000–90,000+

Taxis provide direct, door-to-door service with no route limitations. They are the best option for groups of 3 or more splitting the cost, for late-night arrivals when train and bus frequency drops, or when you have a large amount of luggage and a specific address to reach. The journey to central Seoul typically costs ₩65,000–90,000 depending on traffic and exact destination.

  1. Exit the arrivals hall and follow “Taxi” signs to the designated taxi stand (outside, ground level).
  2. Approach the queue — there is a managed queue system at the airport.
  3. For deluxe taxi, look for the “Deluxe Taxi” (black car) lane, which is separate from regular taxis.
  4. Show the driver your destination in writing (Korean text helps; copy from Naver Maps) — or use the Papago translation app.
  5. All licensed airport taxis run on a meter. Confirm the meter is running when you depart.
  6. A highway toll of ₩6,600 (Incheon International Airport Expressway, lowered in September 2025) is added to the metered fare — this is normal and standard.
🚕 Avoid unlicensed taxis: Do not accept rides from drivers who approach you inside the arrivals hall offering transportation. Use only the official taxi queue outside or a pre-booked international taxi service. Licensed airport taxis all have a visible taxi licence plate and metered fare system.

  • Direct to your exact address
  • Best option for groups of 3+
  • Available 24 hours
  • No luggage limits
  • No transfers or subway stairs

Which Option Is Right for You?

🚇 Solo traveller or couple, central Seoul

You are staying near Myeongdong, Hongdae, or Gangnam and want the fastest arrival without breaking the budget.

🔥 Take: AREX Express to Seoul Station, then 1–2 subway stops to your destination.
🚌 Large luggage, staying near a hotel district

You have 2+ suitcases and your hotel is near Gangnam, Itaewon, or Jongno and you prefer a direct drop.

🔥 Take: Airport Limousine Bus (route 6001, 6002, or 6021 depending on destination).
🚍 Very budget-conscious, non-central area

You are staying in a less central neighbourhood not well served by AREX connections and cost matters most.

🔥 Take: Regular airport bus to your closest stop.
🚕 Group of 3–4 or late night arrival

Splitting cost across 3–4 people makes taxis comparable in price to the bus. After the trains stop, the N6001 night bus or a taxi are your options — see the late-night section below.

🔥 Take: Deluxe Taxi or pre-book International Taxi service.

Arriving After 11 pm: Late-Night Options

AREX trains and most limousine buses stop running between roughly 10:50 pm and 11:20 pm. If your flight lands late at night, you still have solid options — it is not “taxi or nothing.”

Getting Back to the Airport

All the same options work in reverse. A few practical notes for the return journey:

💡 AREX City Check-In: This service is genuinely impressive. Participating airlines (Korean Air, Asiana, and others) let you check bags at the Seoul Station City Airport Terminal — check-in closes 3 hours before departure for T1 flights and 3 hours 20 minutes before for T2 flights, so arrive earlier than that. You then walk through the airport luggage-free. Available daily 5:20am – 7:00pm, AREX Express passengers only. Verify your airline participates before planning around it.
