Jinhae (진해) is universally considered the most spectacular cherry blossom destination in Korea — and arguably one of the most beautiful in all of Asia. A former Japanese naval base town, Jinhae's streets, riverbanks, and railway lines were planted with tens of thousands of King Cherry trees (왕벚나무) whose blossoms form unbroken tunnels of white and pink overhead. The annual Gunhangje Festival (군항제) draws up to 2 million visitors over 10 days. The most photographed spot is Yeojwacheon Stream (여좌천), where the blossoms arch over the water creating a perfect reflection, and Jinhae Rotary (진해 로터리) where trees radiate outward from a central statue.
Yeouido (여의도) is Seoul's financial district and parliament island — and during cherry blossom season, it transforms into the city's most celebrated blossom park. The 1.7 km stretch of Yeouiseo-ro (여의서로) along the Han River is planted with around 1,800 mature King Cherry trees that form a tunnel of blossoms rivalling Jinhae in sheer density. The Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival (영등포 여의도 봄꽃축제) — the official city festival, held in early April — runs alongside the bloom with food stalls, live performances, and illuminated night events that keep the park alive until 11 PM.
Changgyeonggung Palace (창경궁) — a UNESCO-adjacent Joseon royal palace built in 1484 — hosts some of Seoul's most romantically beautiful cherry blossom viewing. During bloom season the palace grounds open for extended evening hours, and the blossoms over the ancient stone walls and traditional roof lines create an atmosphere of extraordinary historic beauty. (The National Palace Museum of Korea, incidentally, sits beside Gyeongbokgung — not here.) The combination of 500-year-old palace architecture and white blossom canopies is unique to Seoul and not replicated anywhere else in Korea. Fewer visitors come here than to Yeouido, making it one of the more peaceful blossom experiences in the city.
Seokchon Lake (석촌호수) in Songpa-gu is one of Seoul's most visually striking blossom spots — a large urban lake completely ringed by cherry trees, with Lotte World Tower (Korea's tallest building and the world's sixth-tallest) looming dramatically in the background. The contrast between the delicate pink blossoms and the 555 m glass skyscraper is quintessentially modern Seoul. The full lake circuit (2 km) is walkable in 30 minutes and the reflections of blossoms on the water are exceptional. Entry is completely free and the area is accessible 24 hours.
Gyeongju (경주) — the 1,000-year-old capital of the Silla Kingdom — offers perhaps the most historically charged cherry blossom experience in Korea. The long Gyeongju-daero boulevard connecting the city to Bomun Lake (보문호) is lined with cherry trees that bloom in a continuous 10 km corridor of pink. Cycling this route during full bloom is unforgettable. Bomun Lake itself is encircled by blossoms with the calm water reflecting the trees and the traditional resort buildings beyond. The combination of ancient burial mounds (대릉원), Cheomseongdae observatory, and blossom-lined streets makes Gyeongju's spring entirely different from Seoul's urban blossom experience.
Naksan Park (낙산공원) sits on a low hill above the Daehangno (대학로) arts district and Ihwa Village (이화마을) — one of Seoul's most charming and often-overlooked blossom spots. The park follows the line of Seoul's old city wall (한양도성) on the hillside, and the cherry trees line the ancient stone wall's base, creating a combination of 600-year-old fortification and spring blossoms that's visually extraordinary and far less crowded than Yeouido or Seokchon Lake. The walk up through Ihwa Mural Village (이화벽화마을), with its famous cat murals and stairway garden, adds a neighbourhood exploration dimension.
Gyeonghwa Station (경화역) in Jinhae is one of Korea's most photographed and beloved cherry blossom spots — an active (but infrequent) single-track railway line flanked on both sides by a continuous tunnel of cherry trees, creating a corridor of white and pink that stretches as far as the eye can see. Visitors walk along the tracks (watching for the occasional train) and photograph the blossom tunnel. It's one of those rare spots where reality exceeds even the most impressive photographs. The station itself is a small, unmanned stop with an old-fashioned signboard and benches — charmingly simple.
